Police to Charge Several Persons Following Street Brawls during Carnival

The annual Carnival Road March in Belize City did not go without incident. Police told the media today that they are looking into at least two brawls that took place during the event on September ninth. One of the incidents happened on Baymen Avenue, where video footage showed two factions throwing bottles at each other, after several women attacked each other, leaving one of them in the drain. It’s not the first time that there’s been ruckus during the carnival and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Hilberto Romero says they will charge those responsible as soon as they’re through reviewing the cameras. Romero also assured the populace that the police presence will be greater for the Independence Day parade.

“There were a couple of fights during the Carnival and we are reviewing video footage and when these persons are identified, we will proceed to arrest them and charge them for disorderly conduct. So that is an investigation that is ongoing at this time. We will have additional personnel for the 21st parade. And so we will have more numbers on the grounds and we will police it accordingly.”
