When Will Vernon St. Stoplight be Repaired?
The Central American Boulevard, although within Belize City, falls within the purview of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing and so, the repairs of the stoplight at the intersection of Vernon Street and the boulevard is its responsibility. The traffic light system at this heavily used intersection was damaged during Hurricane Lisa last year. Today, News Five asked Chief Engineer Evondale Moody for an update on when it is expected to be fixed. He says that the contractor is at this time trying to source the parts needed to repair the stoplight.

“I just recently had a discussion with Cisco Constructions because they were the ones that had installed that light for us a few years ago. And so I spoke with them just last week to see if they could initiate contact with the supplier because I understand from the discussions with them that we need some parts and so they are trying to see if they can seek those parts for the ministry and to try and get them reinstalled, to get that light up and running back again.”

“So, how much is that going to cost us?”
Evondale Moody
“We haven’t received the estimate as yet from the contractor and so we are still waiting on that because they are all electronic parts. And so that’s one of the issues that we have with traffic lights in the country, is that we don’t have parts readily available for us to change out those parts and so we have to rely on the supplier outside of Belize to get those parts. Sometimes when we order these lights, some of these components of the traffic lights become obsolete and so it is difficult for us to find parts for them. And so that is what the contractor is trying to seek so that he could advise us on what it would cost for them to get it up and running again. But as soon as we could get that information, we will try and initiate that to get those lights back.”
