Independence Day Victory for Belize Senior Women’s Football Team
The Senior Women’s Football National Team defeated Aruba’s Women’s National Team on Thursday inside the Football Federation of Belize Stadium in Belmopan. The showdown saw team Belize score two goals, while Aruba was unable to secure any. The goal scorers of the match were Mikhaila Bowden and Sabrina Eiley. We caught up with them in Belmopan today as they prepare for Monday night’s match against Bonaire in Belmopan.
Mikhaila Bowden, Senior Women’s Football National Team
“It came off of a corner kick but right before then I think we had some good build up play. We used our wide players accurately. They got their opportunity to dribble in and try and cross it but it went out for a corner kick. We have a few set plays set up for our corner kick so we all set up accordingly and our kicker did a nice placement of the ball and I know if I didn’t have it Tammy had it right in front of me and so we both just put our head out there for it and we were able to score.”

“How was that feeling like when the ball went in?”
“So excited, at first I didn’t see it squeezed through their cause I headed it down. But once it got through I was so excited cause like I was jumping up and down and I jumped on somebody.”
Sabrina Eiley, Senior Women’s Football National Team
“We were building up the ball. The ball came from the wing to one of the center mid. I asked for the ball and our forward asked for the ball so I played through. A defender was on her so she had to play back to Carlene Tillett that is when Carlene made the pass down the middle and directly to me and I had some opportunities previously, so I had to make sure I settle the ball, look up where I wanted to place the ball and hit the ball.”
Wayne Casimiro, Head Coach
“We are playing here at the Football Federation Stadium at seven-thirty against Bonaire. We hope again that we have fan support. It is one of the things we cry for to get our fans support behind our players because this is a process that is ongoing and I believe if we get support for our players it is an added plus for them and I am sure that it is going to motivate them to be committed to the game.”
