Law Places No Limits on Amount of Gun License for One Individual

Chester Williams

ComPol Williams further clarified that there is not a limit on the amount of gun licenses a single individual can possess. He noted that there are individuals with up to twenty gun licenses in the country. He also noted that it is not uncommon for him to approve multiple gun licenses in a single day for one person.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“The law was does not place a limit on the amount of guns a person can have. We have people in this country who have up to twenty gun license, twenty not issues by me, we have people weh have nineteen, eighteen, seventeen, sixteen, fifteen, right down. Many, many people have more than ten gun license in this country. An issue was not made when they go those gun licenses and again these are outstanding people, most of them are gun enthusiast. I listened to the channel seven report where the man say in one instance three were approved on a day. There are times I approve five gun licenses in one day for a person. Let’s say for instance you have a family member, maybe your father, your father has maybe eight guns and he died. You wish to keep those guns in the family so you apply to the commissioner of police for them. I would approve eight of those licenses for you. There is nothing wrong with that. What some of public servants fail to understand is that we provide a service to people and we must do so in the most efficient and effective manner. I heard people complain that they apply for a gun license three six months without reply. I say to people if you apply for a gun license come to my office in Belmopan. I will take your application form, send it for vetting, get the vetting and perhaps in a week you get your gun license. That is making things more efficient for people.”
