U.D.P. Says It’s Ready for March 2024 Municipals
The next municipal elections are slated for March 2024 and both major political organizations are putting together their respective lists of candidates who will be taking part in the upcoming vote. While the United Democratic Party has already identified aspirants across all nine cities and towns, it has not formally shared those names with the public. That’s because party leader Shyne Barrow says that they are simply waiting for the deafening buzz of the September Celebrations to subside before introducing its roster of mayoral and councilor candidates.
Shyne Barrow, Party Leader, U.D.P.
“We have already secured all of our mayoral and councilor candidates for the nine municipalities and our candidates have been working. Obviously, we’ve been dealing with September Celebrations and we did not believe it was an appropriate time to do the launch. So in the month of October, we will launch our slates. But our slates are all secured and we are ready to win. From PG to Corozal Town, to, as you saw me telling the outgoing mayor of Belmopan City, all of her troubles she will be relieved of come 2024. And even in Belize City, when we go through our internal skirmishes the media covers it, as they are right to do. But I hope that we are giving maximum coverage to the civil war that is happening in the PUP as it relates to the Belize City Council where Bernard Wagner, there is one faction of the council that wants Bernard Wagner and another faction of the party led by Allan Pollard that’s telling you they don’t want him, that the city doesn’t want him, that they need a change and they are absolutely right. But the change is not from Wagner to Pollard.”
