Police Charge Guatemalan Man With Murder of Elmer Canto
It was an outrageous story two days ago when it broke: a man embroiled in an argument with a woman over food, another man stepped in to part the fight, but ends up killing the man who was arguing with the woman. Well that is what reportedly happened on Sunday and today, the police informed the media that they have laid charges. Fifty-six-year-old Manuel de Jesus Sandoval Chavez, a Guatemalan who has been living in Belmopan, will face trial for the murder of forty-two-year-old Elmer Canto. Canto was at this location sometime around one that afternoon when the incident unfolded. He reportedly got involved in the argument with Monica Flores and de Jesus Sandoval tried to stop them, but he and Canto then got involved in a fight, during which Canto is said to have thrown a rock at de Jesus, who then pulled out a long knife and stabbed Canto. When his brother, Jeromie Canto was summoned to the scene, he found Elmer in the creek below. Police have recovered what they believe was the murder weapon. Elmer Canto was the father of two daughters, one of them still a minor.
