Ramon Gonzalez charged for accident that killed his friend

A man from the Corozal District has been charged with several traffic offences after a road mishap earlier this week ended in the death of his friend. Fifty six year old Ramon Gonzales is charged with Manslaughter by Negligence, Causing Death by Careless Conduct, Driving without Due Care and Attention, Failing to stop and Render Aid and Failing to Report an Accident. The incident occurred around three thirty on Tuesday afternoon between miles seventy eight and seventy nine on the Northern Highway. The victim, Nestor Tamai, was reportedly traveling in a pickup along with Gonzales when their vehicle crashed into the rear of a commercial bus. Driver of the bus, Demetrio Ucan, told police that he was driving from Corozal Town and upon reaching San Joaquin the pickup which was travelling in the same direction, rammed into his bus. Tamai suffered severe injuries to his upper body and later died while undergoing treatment. A third person in Gonzales vehicle, Estevan Arana, is critical but stable in the Northern Regional Hospital with injuries to his face and body. Gonzales reportedly fled the scene but was later arrested and charged.
