DO EVs Cost Less than Fuel-Operated Vehicles?

And while you’ll need to know which charger port is compatible with your electric vehicle, when you decide to invest in that ride, Solis also offered consolation in the cost of operating electric vehicles. She said that the cost of fully recharging your ride is expected to cost far less than the fuel you’re spending to fill up at the pumps. Currently, she explained that there’s an average charge per kilowatt hour equivalent to what we pay for residential consumption.

“Currently we are applying a rate of 40 cents, which is just about the residential rate per kilowatt hour consumption, that’s 39, something, something, something cents. So I’m rounding up to 40 cents, right? We have submitted a proposal to the P.U.C for a new charging tariff. That information is available on the P.U.C’s website for public consultation. I believe the rate that we have proposed is 37 cents per kilowatt hour for charge, right. So right now, as I mentioned, we’re applying the residential rate per kilowatt hour, which is about 39 something, something cents, 40 cents if you’re rounding up.”

“And then, for a fully charged vehicle, that can last you how long? Can you say?”

Selene Solis

“That really depends on the make, the model, the range, the type of vehicle that you have, the battery health. So, newer electric vehicles come with a range of anywhere from 200 to 300 and some up to 400 miles per full charge. So what that translates to, if you can imagine, depending on the vehicle again, you’d be spending anywhere from as little as $30, $40 as much as $50 for 200 to 300 miles of range. So the cost savings when you compare it to the cost of fuel per gallon, which I believe went up last week or the week before, right, is astronomical, when you compare the amount of mileage that you will get from an electric vehicle to the cost compared to the fuel cost.”

“Then again, newer vehicles will give you more and cost less.”

Selene Solis

“That is the expectation, yes.”
