… And large cash bust might be connected

Interesting to note is that another strange incident which might or might not be related to the whole incident also unfolded on the island on Friday night. Police came across a group of men in the same Boca del Rio area around eight on Friday night with a huge amount of US cash on them. Whether it was pure coincidence or was related to the previous events of the day police have not yet ascertained. But police say they are looking at all angles.

“At around eight p.m. while police were in the Boca del Rio area near the bridge they came in contact with some six persons acting suspiciously. As a result, based on suspicion the police carried out a search on these persons which led to the discovery of some US currency. These monies amounted to be in the vicinity of thirty thousand US dollars and these persons were detained and these monies are kept in police custody and these person are given receipt for their monies and the Income Tax Department will be contacted today and the Financial Intelligence Unit likewise and after their processing these monies may be returned to their owners.”

“But who are these people? Where are they from? And what were they doing with that amount of money? Are they talking?”

Sgt John Sanchez
“These persons are all from Belize City and from what they have alluded to the police they were out on the island to do business. They were not clear on the business they were here doing. They will be re-detained and charges will be laid against them if any of them should be involved in this whole scenario.”

Three of the men are said to be businessmen while two were taxi men and the last one was a labourer.
