Celebrating the Inaugural Ombuds Day
October twelfth is being set aside for the first time as Ombuds Day, a celebration of transparency, accountability, and fairness. On Thursday, an inaugural ceremony, as well as an expo, will be held at the Memorial Park to observe the day. Under the theme, “transparency, trust and transformation,” it highlights the principles of open and accountable government, fundamental in building trust within the community and fostering positive change. Activities will include a public information session during which the ombudsman’s office will inform the public about the roles of the ombudsman and how to take advantage of the available resources. The event is a collaborative effort between the Office of the Ombudsman and the Belize City Council and will serve as a platform for promoting good governance, strengthening the relationship between the government and the citizens, as well as ensuring that the voices of the residents are heard and respected.
