Faber Votes Against Shyne in House Committee Meeting, Did He Cross the Floor?
A house committee meeting was held earlier today at the Assembly Building in Belmopan where an issue involving Opposition Leader Shyne Barrow was raised in respect of a terse email that was written to Speaker Valerie Woods, ahead of the August eleventh sitting of the House of Representatives. Viewers would recall that Barrow had filed a request for a no-confidence motion to be tabled against Prime Minister John Briceño eleven days prior to that house meeting being held. He did not get a reply from Woods until the night before the scheduled sitting of parliament. His curt response in which he referred to the House Speaker as, “a complete waste of time”, raised the ire of several parliamentarians, including the House Speaker. During today’s house committee meeting, a vote was taken on the matter and Barrow’s U.D.P. colleague Patrick Faber, who was absent from the meeting but submitted a letter, voted in line with government. According to Barrow, whom we spoke with by phone this evening, the letter from Collet Area Representative Patrick Faber essentially ridiculed him. After seeking advice on the matter, Barrow informed News Five that the decision taken by Faber is tantamount to crossing the floor. We’ll have more on this in Thursday’s newscast.
