Police Do Not Suspect Foul Play in Oswaldo Vasquez’s Death
Reporters caught up with Commissioner of Police Chester Williams this afternoon in Belize City. According to ComPol Williams, police do not suspect foul play in the death of Oswaldo Vasquez. He confirmed that a postmortem will be conducted as a part of a police investigation.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“Yes I know that this morning police in Orange Walk was conducting searches in the same area where they had said the young man had disappeared. The lifeless body was found floating in the river. I believe they were saying certain parts of the limbs were missing. It appears he was being eaten by crocodiles or some animal. So the body was retrieved and taken to the medical school where a postmortem will be conducted. At this time we still don’t suspect foul play we will have to wait until after the postmortem is completed and then we will have a definitive cause of death moving forward.”

“His wife and brother-in-law are still detained?”
Chester Williams
“I don’t think they are detained at this time. They were part of the search team with the police along with other residents of Orange Walk Town. We are grateful to BSI who assisted us with boats and drones and if it weren’t for their assistance we wouldn’t have been where we are right now. Like we said we don’t suspect foul play so we don’t have anyone detained now.”

“Are you able to clarify if at no point the wife was detained along with the brother-in-law.”
Chester Williams
“I don’t think they were detained. They were simply at the police station as would normally be the case to answer questions and give statements. At the end of the day they were the last to see the person alive. What they would have told the police that they were behind the young man trying to convince him to get back in the vehicle when he disappeared in the area. So like , would normally be the case, they would have been taken into the police station so the police could have gotten a proper account from them in terms of what transpired leading up to the young man’s disappearance.”
