Faber Says He Did Not Attend Nor Vote Against Shyne in House Committee Meeting

Collet Area Representative Patrick Faber arrived in Belize earlier today and will likely attend the sitting of the House of Representatives in Belmopan on Friday.  As we reported on Wednesday, Faber did not attend a house committee meeting that was convened to discuss the email sent by Opposition Leader Shyne Barrow to House Speaker Valerie Woods prior to the last house meeting in August.  Instead, a letter was sent in which Faber drew distance from the comment made by Barrow, in his response to the House Speaker’s decision not to table a motion for a vote of no confidence.  We note that Faber did not attend yesterday’s meeting, nor did he do so virtually, and, as a result, did not participate in any vote regarding the matter involving his party leader.  Nonetheless, Barrow has gone on record elsewhere in the media to state that Faber’s actions are tantamount to him crossing the floor.  News Five spoke with Faber earlier today and we were made to understand that the United Democratic Party did not take a collective position on the matter involving Barrow’s comments, despite his personal opinion that the request was not handled fairly by the House Speaker.  We reached out to the Leader of the Opposition this morning who deferred comment until Friday.
