Yemeri Grove, Laguna Border Agreement Still Not Signed

As Minister Dolores says, the leaders of Yemeri Grove and Laguna came together an agreed on an interim border as a means of quelling the increased tension. But, no agreement was signed on that day. The leaders were informed that an official agreement would be drafted by the Office of the Attorney General and will be distributed for signing. News Five confirmed that the agreement document was issued today and that one village chairman has taken issue with some of the stipulations outlined in the document.  The document says that both parties must agree that there will be no new developments in the contentious zone. The villagers must also support the government’s efforts to conduct inspection and map the entire disputed area, as well as cooperate with the formal demarcation process. But, a map has recently surfaced showing what appears to be the government’s proposed boundary for the area in dispute. News Five has confirmed that the proposed boundary line has the Chairman of Yemeri Grove Village, Herald Usher, on edge. We understand that he will be seeking legal advice before signing unto the agreement. This means that there is still work ahead for Minister Garcia and the Government of Belize to get to a signed agreement between the two villages. We continue to follow.
