Patrick Faber Apologizes to U.D.P. Executive
Collet Area Representative Patrick Faber has also made amends with his party after issuing a letter last week in which he basically drew distance from Shyne Barrow’s comments towards the Speaker of the House. In a text message to the executive of the United Democratic Party, Faber says, “In the vein of the party leader’s concession, I sincerely apologize for any harm that my letter and statement in the house may have caused to the party. It was not my intention to undermine or harm our collective efforts. I value the trust and unity of our members”. Here’s what Party Leader Barrow had to say about the apology.
Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
“We’re all delighted that he has apologized to the party for that letter and we move on, you know. We have work to do and we don’t want to be distracted. We are all committed to being unified in the United Democratic Party for the sake of Belize. Our people in the thirty-one constituencies are counting on us to keep it together so that they can be rescued from the clutches of the John Briceño monster that is this P.U.P. government.”
Isani Cayetano
“Would you accept that perhaps you may have been a bit impulsive or hasty in characterizing his move by submitting this letter as essentially an act of crossing the floor?”
Shyne Barrow
“No. The constitution allows me the prerogative, states it very clearly that when the opposition leader determines that to be the case that he should write the speaker and then the speaker will make the interpretation. So that was my analysis. But being the humble leader that I am, that is more concerned with keeping the party united and serving the interest of the Belizean people, rather than ego or pride or emotions or personal vendettas, I was guided by my colleagues to resolve the matter internally and that is what we did.”
