Kiwanis Club reemerges to continue social work
You may have not heard lately of Kiwanis Club International, but its members work to revitalize neighborhoods and perform countless projects to help children and communities. Kiwanis Club Belize’s main thrust is to help raise funds for children in need of medical care. The organization has been dormant for a while but organizers are reviving the group. Darrell Bradley, Public Relations Officer for Kiwanis Club Belize, says that this weekend the organization will reintroduce itself to the public with a fundraiser.

“Kiwanis was a vibrant club for some and then because of the membership, it dwindled a little bit. But now we have a lot of younger people in the organization and they’ve brought it back and on Saturday night we’re having a relaunch of Kiwanis Club Belize. It’s going to be held at Fort George and its going to be at seven o’clock.”

“What is the purpose of Kiwanis?”
Darrell Bradley
“Kiwanis is actually an international organization. It’s a service organization that particularly does community service relating to young people. One of the main focus of the organization is to raise funds for medical treatment for young people.”
Jose Sanchez
“How long has Kiwanis been in Belize?”
Darrell Bradley
“Well, Kiwanis has been in Belize for three or four years. But, as I’ve said, over the years membership has dwindled and we’re really trying to bring it back now.”

“What is the motivation at this point in doing what you can?”
Darrell Bradley
“Well, we really feel the people who are involved in the organization, there is a lot of scope for service organizations in Belize. And the people who are involved really have a community spirit and they are driven by a willingness and a desire to want to help people in society, particularly young people.
If you would like to attend the Kiwanis Launch and fundraiser it will be held in the Caracol Room at the Fort George Hotel at seven p.m. on Saturday.
