Ministry of Works plans to pave more streets

Last year’s historic flooding has been providing the Ministry of Works with ample repairs and new projects. According to Ministry C.E.O., Cadet Henderson, government has millions of dollars currently invested in construction activities throughout the country and they intend to pour some more hot mix in the old capital.

“We have more than a hundred million dollars worth or work active. Of course, we have the last segment of the Southern Highway that is on going, a portion of it is already paved. This is from Golden Stream to Big Falls. We also have the Placencia road project which is picking up progress right now for the new year. A portion of it as well is being prepared for paving. We have the south side poverty alleviation project where we’re about to launch its second phase. As you know, this has to do with enhancing life in Collet, Port Loyola, Lake Independence and these areas. So we are going into another phase of it. We’ll do some more housing assistance separate from the national housing program with the Venezuela grant. We have the Central American Boulevard, which is legally a thoroughfare in our jurisdiction, Ministry of Works, where we will do upgrading in that area including repaving, our projection is its entire length from the roundabout to the customs house.”

“Yes, with hot mix. We also want to modernize the traffic lights in those areas.”

“When can we see that coming on stream?”

“I would say within a month we should move into that phase.”

Projects in the pipeline include a new bridge at the border with Chetumal near Subtiniente Lopez. Five million dollars in funding for that project will come from the Central American Bank, CABEI. There are also plans to reconstruct the Middlesex Bridge and pave several feeder roads.
