Police Issue Bulletin for Arrest of Christian Espat for SP Triple Murder

Michael Brown & Christian Espat

Michael Brown, the man accused jointly along with Christian Espat, has still not been charged, as police wrap up the preliminary investigation into his involvement in the triple murder in San Pedro on Sunday night. And where exactly he will be arraigned, whether in San Pedro or Belize City, remains unclear. But the post mortem examinations on the three persons for whom they are accused of killing have all confirmed the news that we’ve already reported on. Three-year-old Amari Rodriguez, her father, Delmar Rodriguez and Carlos Chi, died of the gunshot wounds they suffered Sunday night. And today, police issued this all points bulletin to the public for assistance in locating Christian Espat, who is the other man wanted in the heinous triple murder. Police believe Espat and Brown were the gunmen who ambushed the golf cart that Delmar Rodriguez was driving along with five persons and his three-year-old daughter. Today, the Minister of Home Affairs, Kareem Musa told the media that Espat’s family has been long accused of illicit activity on the island and that whole issue of drugs on the island is one that the police will have to address more seriously.

“I do not know the gentleman, I do not wish to know the gentleman, but as you pointed out, there is a long history there. There are several families in San Pedro who have historically been engaged, I think three or four notorious families, engaged in this playador lifestyle, in this drug activity and it’s not just in the last ten years. We are talking at least twenty years that these families have been involved. I think that particular individual; his entire family was wiped out. Espat, if I am not mistaken, a lot of his family members were in fact killed because of this very drug trade. And so that’s certainly is what I do know of the family and that is something that definitely is a serious concern that we have to apply greater pressure. We did put a police booth up north San Pedro a few months ago, I think about ten months ago, and we do have greater police presence along the beaches in north San Pedro. But again, such a large area to cover and in fact that is something that we are going to be addressing.”
