Allan Pollard, “Why Cry Over Spilt Milk?
It’s been about a month since the P.U.P. endorsed Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner to run for that position in next year’s municipal elections. And while the murmurs leading up to and immediately following that endorsement were critical of the party, which had accepted applications from other candidates, no one has officially asked Deputy Mayor Allan Pollard for his sentiments since the endorsement. Pollard had been campaigning hard, hoping that if the party had gone to an elected convention that he would have won the bid to run as mayor. One month later, Pollard says he has moved past it, but what happened wasn’t “cool”.
Allan Pollard, Deputy Mayor, Belize City
“I would be lying if I’d say it’s cool, right? If I’d, you know, support. At this point in time, you know, it was, of course, disheartening to a lot of people close to me: a lot of emotions and a lot of people were looking forward to that, but however, the party, who is one that I believe in, you know, this is a body that I’ve chosen to run with, run on. And I believe in the leadership of the party and I believe in the system that the party has. And my whole thing from the beginning was serving, to be honest with you. I want to serve in any capacity possible. Of course, being the mayor was one of those things that I believed that I could have done well, and the party made their decision, and for me to cry over spilt milk or throw a tantrum because things didn’t go my way would be definitely would be something that I wouldn’t want to display to others watching, right?”

“And your relationship with the mayor?”
Allan Pollard
“Well, right now he’s out of the country. I’m the acting mayor and before he went, we had a, you know, we had a good talk, interesting discussion and at the end of the day, both of us have things that we need to get done. So, at the day, that to me is of paramount importance.”

“Okay, but there’s no infighting?”
Allan Pollard
“Nothing like that. We had two caucus meetings and surprisingly, to others, [they] would say surprisingly, they were some of the best caucus meetings because everybody is now, you know, energized. Everybody is looking forward to another municipal election.”
