‘All you Need is Love’ sang in Belize and around the world
The internet, at its inception, was said to be a medium through which the world would be brought together. And now Starbucks, the international coffeehouse chain, has decided to take up the task and create a Global Sing-A-Long. About six-thirty Monday morning, vocalists from around the world including a Belizean, Leslie “Bastic” Jenkins, sung a version of the Beatle’s classic song “All You Need is Love.” The musical coordinator in the Jewel was James Sanker, the owner of the Belize Music Agency and the live webcast was coordinated by Brent Toombs of Oxa Productions. News Five spoke to both Toombs and Bastic Jenkins who sang the Beatles tune.

“We connected via the internet back to the United Kingdom with I think a hundred and ninety-eight or two hundred countries simultaneously hooked up and at exactly seven-thirty our time, artists from all over the world, including Leslie Jenkins sang All You Need is Love at the same time.”

“Well, to represent your country is a nice warm feeling.”

“The web as a medium, do you think it’s something that can help you with your music?”

“Yes, definitely sure. I think because it’s going to be aired all over the world and internationally, so I think it will give some kind of boost to my career.”

“This song is Beatles classic, All You Need is Love. What was the feeling going through you when you were actually performing this live?”
Leslie “Bastic” Jenkins
“Well, to sing one of the Beatles songs, I appreciate that a lot and knowing the status of the Beatles, it just give me a nice feeling to represent my country with such great status.”

“Was there a medium in which you could have seen all countries at the same time?”
Brent Toombs
“I believe on the website, starbucksloveproject.com, if you had tuned in at seven-thirty this morning, you would have seen the live feed from all the different countries or a live edit—I’m not sure exactly what it looked like, of course we could only see what we were shooting—but it is being replayed on the website and it should be up there by now. People can go up there and be able to see what the live event looked like. I understand that in London they had a live projection installation there and people could go to a live venue and see the stream from all the countries that were participating at the same time.”
The website will be up until March of 2010 and Toombs says that web viewers can record their own version of the Beatles tune and upload their streaming videos to the website at www.StarbucksLoveProject.com.
