Marion Jones’ Olympic medals redistributed

Story PictureIn other news, Belizean track star Marion Jones proudly raised the Jewel’s flag at the 2000 Sydney Olympics where she won five medals; three gold and two bronze. But she was stripped of those awards after admitting in October of 2007 to using steroids prior to the event. Jones gave up the medals days after confessing in a US District Court that she lied to federal agents about doping and her involvement in a cheque fraud case. It wasn’t until this past Monday that it was announced that the International Olympic Committee will be redistributing the medals. Reports in the US media say Jones’ gold medal for the two hundred meter race now goes to Pauline Davis-Thompson of the Bahamas and bronze for long jump will be reallocated to Russian athlete, Tatyana Kotova. Meanwhile, the hundred meter gold medal would have gone to Greek runner Katerina Thanou, but she will not be promoted to first place because she was involved in her own doping scandal in 2004. Recent news on Jones’ career is that she plans to make a comeback in women’s basketball with the San Antonio Silver Stars.
