No Physical Confrontation So Far between Laguna and Yemeri Grove
As we reported on Monday, the boundary dispute between the people of Laguna and Yemeri Grove dates back several years. Both sides are accusing the other of encroaching on the other’s property or farmland. When News Five visited Laguna Village on Saturday, Chairman Sebastian Iche told us that the dispute between the two villages has caused tension and confrontation between their two peoples, but that the authorities stepped in before it led to anything physical.
Sebastian Iche, Chairman, Laguna Village
“We have had confrontations in the recent past. Thankfully there has not been any violence erupting, but we have, on several occasions, encountered Yemeri Grove coming into our area, trying to survey lands. And some of our residents – well, it’s just natural that they would react to situations like these. They went out on the scene but thankfully there was no violence at that time. It was me and the First Alcalde and the Deputy Alcalde went out there and we talked to our people not to engage with nobody and let’s maintain the peace. Well the people complied with us and there was no violence.”
