Two shootings in Belize City
And in Belize City this afternoon a shooting took place under the nose of the police. The victim, Oming Veliz, is tonight hospitalized under stable condition after he was shot in the shoulder in the vicinity of the Raccoon Street Police Station. Just before four this afternoon, Veliz, also known as “Mama Chica”, was at the corner of Iguana and West Collet Canal Streets allegedly gambling at the street corner with friends when they were approached by three armed men. Witnesses, who refused to comment on camera, heard several shots and then saw Veliz bleeding from the shoulder. The three robbers fled the scene on bicycles—all going in different directions. Veliz was transported by a private vehicle to the K.H.M.H. for medical attention. Police arrived at the scene minutes later and found the weapon in a nearby drain.
And while Veliz is still hospitalized, twenty-six year old Jermaine Belgrave, checked himself out of the K.H.M.H. while recuperating from a gunshot wound he received on Saturday night. Around eleven-thirty, Belgrave was standing at the corner of Orange and West Streets when he was approached by a car. Several shots rang out from the vehicle one of which caught Belgrave in the upper left shoulder. Belgrave was treated and discharged himself. Police are currently looking for a suspect.
