Salvation Army needs toys for annual Christmas party

Story PictureThe annual Salvation Army Christmas party for needy children is coming up next week. But this year, the economic downturn is affecting donors and collections in their toy drive have been slow. The event seeks to give deserving children a good Christmas treat of at least one toy each. Corporate citizen, Bravo Motors, who has been supporting the efforts of the Salvation Army again stepped up to the plate today. Managing Director of Bravo Motors, Eddie Bouloy, is appealing to the public to dig deep and help in any way they can.

Eddie Bouloy, Managing Director, Bravo Motors
“Our target this year is two thousand, one hundred toys but we’ve only collected so far about three hundred toys and the Christmas party is next week Thursday and Friday so we’re getting down to the wire here. Our collection points are spread across the city at all the main shopping stores in Belize City and BWEL has also volunteered to be a collection agent across the country. So if you’re buying gas you can also donate a toy and BWEL will be very happy to pick that up. Supporting the toy drive is a very good lesson for your kids, teaching them to be charitable. Tell your kids to clear out their closets and find a good used toy or several used toys that they may not be playing with anymore. That could benefit a child in need.”

“What are some of the drop off points?”

Eddie Bouloy
“The drop points are Brodies; both locations in Belize City, Save-U, Hofius, Mirab, A&R, Courts. Those are the main drop off points that we have in the city right now. The Salvation Army holds the part in two locations. One is at the Salvation Army School and the other one is at the Parish Hall. It’s an annual event for needy children. The children are identified by teachers in the different schools and they send the most needy children to this party. Some of these are kids that may not get a toy.”

“How long has this been going on?”

Eddie Bouloy
“Oh this has been going on for umpteen years; forever. We’ve been involved with it for at least ten years now and it’s an event that’s very close to our heart and we work as a team to help the Salvation Army to make it a success.”
