Achieving ISO 17075 Accreditation
The Department of the Environment is partnering with the UK Government through the Ocean Country Partnership Programme to enhance marine science capabilities in three core areas: marine pollution, biodiversity loss, and sustainable seafood. The DOE, with OCPP support, is hosting a three-day technical workshop aimed at expediting I-S-O accreditation, the standard for which most laboratories must hold accreditation in order to be deemed technically competent. Day two of the training was today, and we stopped by to speak with Environmental Officer Jorge Franco.
Jorge Franco, Environmental Officer, D.O.E.
“Meeting these standards will ensure that and give that additional credibility. The way that they are conducting their analysis, the methodologies they are using are nationally accepted standards. That gives us more confidence in the results that we are getting from these laboratories, ensuring that our drinking water meets international standards as well. This ISO training is for all laboratories. Like I mentioned, everybody is benefiting from it. We have industry here. We have academia. We have government. We have NGOs. Our intention is for our to build that network and that’s why the Department of Environment is trying to being all these laboratory technicians and all these people who operate and manage laboratories we can create a network and have a database where we can gather this information and make it available to the general public.”
