No Charges for Bonner and Kerr in Fatal Stabbing of Belize City Mechanic

Twenty-five-year-old Feleecia Kerr and her mother Farah Bonner have been released from police custody without being charged for the stabbing death of Belize City mechanic Dean Halliday.  As we’ve reported, the tragic incident involving Bonner and common-law husband occurred on Saturday at Bonner’s residence in Maxboro.  Halliday reportedly attacked Bonner and inflicted multiple stab wounds to her, before Kerr stepped in to defend her mother.  During the altercation, Halliday was stabbed multiple times and left for dead on the veranda.  Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero explains the directives given by the D.P.P.’s office.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander, Eastern Division

“On Saturday, November 4th, 2023, police visited a house at Maxboro in the Belize District whereupon arrival they found the lifeless body of a male person identified as Dean Halliday and he was seen with stab injuries to the body.  Paramedics came to the scene and he was pronounced dead at the scene, thereafter taken to the KHMH.  Investigation revealed that Dean Halliday came to the house where his common-law resides and he got into a domestic dispute.  He pulled out a knife and inflicted stab wounds to his common-law, at which point the daughter of his common-law intervened.  She got a knife and inflicted stab injuries to Halliday which proved fatal.  An investigation was carried out, the file was sent to the DPP and after the investigation a directive came that they both be released and they were released and not charged. Several videos were obtained, interviews were conducted, statements were recorded and those were forwarded.  After that, that determination was made by the DPP.”

“So, from the police’s perspective, it has the appearance of a self-defense?”

Hilberto Romero

“Yes, that is the appearance, yes.”
