PG Residents Say They Were Not Consulted
Chief Engineer Evondale Moody told News 5 that all stakeholders were consulted before it was decided that the Carib Reserve Road would act as the alternative route while the ministry moves ahead with replacing the Joe Taylor Bridge. However, resident Orlando Muschamp says the people of the town and surrounding areas were not consulted.
Orlando Muschamp, Resident, Punta Gorda Town
“As we all know, this municipality is led by the Mayor and his council and so forth. I mean, it is no ABC. It should have been protocol. It should have been a letter to the town council for the development of our community so that our people could have been involved and consulted. We should have had several consultations called by the mayor’s office who should be our leader, representing us, the people of Punta Gorda, and not Mr Moody. From what I understand and from what I read on his Facebook page last night is that we are very unreasonable and we are whatever. He has no right to say so on our behalf because we have our leaders in our community who should have been consulted but because of an ineffective town council that we have in Punta Gorda this is where we stand today fighting for the rest of people, the fisherfolks, the people in tourism, the students going to school, the teachers going to school, the doctors, the nurses that are living on the other side of the bridge. So I am saying now to Mr Moody that he is very inconsiderate in putting a statement before us knowing that we have people who capable to defend ourselves and actually tell him the real conditions what we are going through in Punta Gorda.”
