Xunantunich Observation Post is of Concern
The Xunantunich Observation Post is an area of concern. That is what the B.D.F.’s Commander Brigadier General Azariel Loria told the media today. Just recently several rounds of ammunition and a firearm were found in the area which is described as an informal border crossing. Information suggests that illicit activities are carried out in that area. B.D.F. Commander Brigadier General Azariel Loria spoke on this matter.
Brig. Gen. Azariel Loria, Commander, B.D.F.
“The Observation post was created first and foremost to ensure that we continue with the Confidence Building Measures that we have been going through with the Guatemalan Armed Forces. Also, if you recall in the past, we used to have the Barrio El Juda that was they were encroaching on our side. So that’s gone. We will continue to patrol the area so that there are no buildings, there are no infrastructure on our side. We continue to do that. That’s it. That’s the primary task. But then the secondary task just so you know, we have a police officer attached to that unit. So it’s a joint venture that we’re doing because we have to acknowledge that a lot of illicit activity is happening that area. Yes, the ferry close at five. But then that is not the only route that we could go through, we could go through it back to as well.”
