Marion Jones hopes to make a comeback in basketball

Story PictureShe made Belize proud at the Sydney Olympics when she wrapped the Belize flag on her next to the American flag after zipping past the finish line in first place. Marion Jones went on to win five medals in track and field. The super-athlete was stripped of her medals after admitting to doping and was then sent to prison. Jones has been released from prison since last year and has kept a low profile. But the once famous athlete has been training with the U.S. Women’s National Basketball Association’s San Antonio Silver Stars with a view to making a comeback but not in athletics, it is in basketball for European and U.S. teams. Jones told the New York Times she had been working with the assistants to Silver Stars coach, Dan Hughes, since October with hope of playing in Europe soon and in the Women’s N.B.A. next year. It would be a shot at a second chance she said. Jones played college basketball at North Carolina, starting at point guard on the Tar Heels’ 1994 US college championship squad. Jones is a U.S. national, but is of Belizean heritage.
