Shyne Barrow, “the extreme lengths to which the P.U.P. government has gone is unprecedented.”
The conflict in the Middle East is a rather contentious and divisive issue and, according to Opposition Leader Barrow, the Briceño administration has been immoderate in its diplomatic approach to Israel when compared to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia a few years ago.
Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
“I do believe that the extreme lengths to which the PUP government has gone is unprecedented and unparalleled. Let’s just look at Russia. Over sixty thousand, seventy thousand people have died since Russia invaded Ukraine. Tens of thousands of civilians have died: women, children. There was a point where the Government of Belize, the PUP government, the Briceño administration said nothing. We actually put out a press release condemning them for not opposing the behavior of Russia. So this is obviously in keeping with the extreme bias of this government, and whereas I agree with most that there should be pauses for humanitarian relief and aid. I do agree with the request for humanitarian pauses. Nobody says that that request was met, that the Israelis have been doing humanitarian pauses and I would encourage, as a friend of Israel, I would encourage Prime Minister Netanyahu to do more in the name of the humanitarian pauses to ensure that the relief is getting to those who desperately need it. But this is war. This is not occupation, this is not the military of Israel just going to Gaza arbitrarily. They were attacked by a terrorist organization that swears, has taken an oath that they will commit more October seventh attacks until Israel and all Jews no longer exist.”
