After 1 year in Mexican jail, casino guard and boss freed

The area between the Las Vegas Casino and the Mexican Border was the scene of a shootout and high speed vehicle chase that ended across the border at Subtiniente Lopez on July thirteenth 2008. Casino boss George Hardie Junior and three members of his Cobra Security team: David Abner Gomez, Martin Miller and Curlin Thompson were involved in the chase and shootout after the three guards escorted two unruly Mexican nationals out of the casino. The men came back a few minutes later armed with a gun and that’s when the shootout occurred. Quintana Roo resident, Luis Navarro, was shot during the incident. When the four men handed over their weapons to the Mexican guard post, they were locked up. In addition to Attempted Murder, they were charged with introducing firearms into Mexico. The men have been in jail since then and a year later in June of 2009, Miller, Thompson and Gomez were sentenced to ten years for Attempted Murder while U.S. National, Hardy Junior received seven years. And the update is that tonight two of them will be released from prison and handed over to Belize immigration authorities. Mexican sources tell News Five that Casino boss Hardie Junior and Corozal resident Gomez won an appeal and will be released tonight after their release papers have been processed. As far as it is known, Thompson and Miller did not appeal their conviction.
