Former Prime Ministers Support G.O.B.’s Decision on Israel
The decision by the Government of Belize to suspend diplomatic relations with Israel has been met with strong support by former prime ministers Said Musa and Dean Barrow, as well as former foreign ministers Assad Shoman and Godfrey Smith. In a joint statement issued by the erstwhile government officials, the decision is regarded as, “the very least that Belize could do to comply with our obligation under the Genocide Convention and the Geneva Conventions of 1949 on international humanitarian law. The government cannot be accused of taking sides, there are no two sides to genocide. We therefore reiterate our commendation of the Government of Belize for taking a courageous and principled stand against the war crimes, the genocide being committed by the state of Israel”.
