Mexican and US Embassies bring classical music to Belize
Classical music is not often heard in Belize. But if you have an ear for the piano and the violin, there is an event this weekend that will give you a measure of both. The Embassies of Mexico and the United States are bringing in two artists for a piano and violin recital this weekend. Renowned pianist Marieli Sosa and violinist Christopher Collins Lee will be performing in both Belize City and Belmopan. Jorge Luis Hidalgo, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Mexican Embassy, says that the concerts are free to the public.

“This is a duet piano and violin in which a violinist from the US, from New York, Christopher Collins Lee and a pianist from Yucatan Marieli Sosa will be playing classical music at the Bliss Center and at the George Price Center. So we invite all people to attend these two concerts, these two recitals. They are free. Please bring along the family, the friends. It is a good opportunity to listen to good classical music in Belize at the capital city and at the largest city in the country”

“They started in the best music schools in the US and Europe in Vienna. Misses Sosa spent almost ten years in Europe studying and graduating over there. They have played during the last five years together in different parts of the U.S., in Europe and in Mexico. And Mister Lee, he had studied in the Julliard School in New York. He is very renowned, not only in his country but in Asia and Europe too.”

“We are having this, as I said, as a part of the cultural program of Mexico regularly presents in Belize.”
The recitals will be held in Belmopan on Saturday and in Belize City on Sunday. Hidalgo says since Mexico is celebrating its centennial anniversary of the Mexican revolution and the bicentennial of its independence next year, there will be more cultural activities that Mexico will present to the Belizean public.
