Did negligent use of extension cords cause the fire?

Story PictureAnd as to the cause of the fire, Training Officer of the National Fire Service, Kenneth Mortis, says that the negligent use of extension cords was once again deemed to have caused the inferno.

Kenneth Mortis, Training Officer, Nat’l Fire Service
“This afternoon the cause of the fire was another malpractice of extension cords. What we found, we found an assortment of extension cords cut, split, joined, connected to another one, which was connected to another one and then distributed throughout the remainder of the house. According to the owner of the house, Mister Banner, he reported that this situation has been that way for quite some time now I believe it was only a matter of time before what happened today happened. Unfortunately for him, it had to be this way.”

“Mr. Mortis I think its tirelessly that you’ve been saying people need to stop using these extension cords in the manner that they are using it and you know what during this Christmas season you’re going to have a lot of this happening with people having up lights and all of that. Are they just not learning the proper technique?”

Kenneth Mortis
“Duane, your guess is as good as mine. We try to educate our people as best as we possibly can. We try to emphasize the importance of this practice. It’s not something that we encourage, we are totally against it and from time to time the record has shown the outcome and the outcome has always been loss of in property and contents. We are fortunate to this point that we have not had a lost in life during a practice like this and I hope the day never comes. But we can only appeal to the people to take it very seriously. Extension cord malpractice is not something that should be taken lightly.”
