One-year-old Dies After Consuming Poison in Shipyard

Hilberto Romero

A toddler lost his life this weekend in Shipyard when he reportedly consumed a deadly poison while in the care of his older sister.  Baby David Schmidt was with his sixteen-year-old sibling in the Mennonite community in Orange Walk when he allegedly drank a bottle of poison.  Despite efforts to rush him to the nearest hospital, the infant died from the toxic substance.  Here’s more from ACP Hilberto Romero.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander, Eastern Division

“On Friday, November 24th, police visited a house at Shipyard where they found the lifeless body of David Schmidt, a one-year-old child.  Information is that the child was being taken care of by a sister, sixteen years of age, and he was given a bottle that contained suspected poison.  The child drank the liquid substance and then started to vomit, he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”
