Government of Belize Refutes False Claims of Judicial Disruption
The Briceño Administration fired off a press release this afternoon, responding to what it says is irresponsible reporting by news blogs on social media. Those reports stated that crown counsels in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions were on a “sick-out”. The Attorney General’s Ministry says that all crown counsels are at their full operational strength, with the exception of three officers who are on pre-approved vacation leave. The Attorney General also says that only one magistrate is currently on sick leave. The release goes on to say that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution continues its operations in the courts, with prosecutors appearing for all scheduled matters. G.O.B. states “the administration of justice has not been halted, and the work of the government at the Attorney General’s Ministry continues unaffected.” Government also condemned what it described as the social media hysteria regarding the alleged sick-out and irresponsible reporting.
