Shyne Barrow Says He Takes No Side in Israel/Palestine Conflict
While we had an audience with him today, News Five asked the Leader of the Opposition for his position on the conflict between Israel and Hamas on the Gaza Strip and also the recent marches for peace for both sides. He said that he takes no side on the matter, but calls for peace between the two warring factions.
Moses Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
“The United Democratic Party remains in the middle, and we continue to call for humanitarian alleviation. We continue to call for an end to the military operations, and an end to terrorism and a release of all the hostages and a two-state solution.”
Marion Ali
“Would you categorize the response of Israel just?”
Moses Shyne Barrow
“I don’t know if there’s ever justice in war. War is a terrible thing and I thank God that Belize had a peaceful revolution and I thank God that we got our independence with[out] any bloodshed. But war is never going to be something that you can take any comfort in. I, again, appeal to the Israeli Government to take all precautionary measures to spare human life. I believe that as it stands, nobody’s talking about the current ceasefire that is in place that different governments, I believe the Quatrains, the Egyptians, the Americans are all pushing to extend the ceasefire to get the hostages back. And I call on Hamas to renounce terrorism as much as I call on the Israeli Government. to refrain from settler expansion into those territories that are supposed to form the Arab state, the Palestinian state.”
