Shyne Says P.U.P. Has Municipal Conflicts All Over
The recent fall-out between Mayor Sheran Palacio, the Belmopan City Council, and officials within the People’s United Party became a topic of discussion a few weeks ago. Palacio has indicated that she will not run again for the position of mayor. And while she seemingly exits the political arena in a storm, today the media asked the Leader of the Opposition, whether he believes the rift, like the one several years ago between former Belize City Mayor Zenaida Moya and hierarchy of the U.D.P., is a gender issue. He opined that there are currently several P.U.P. City Councils that have internals rifts, so it is not a matter of gender or race.
Moses Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
“It doesn’t matter what gender you are or what race you are. In my humble opinion, it all has to do with the greed and glutton and the drive for self enrichment, ego, pride. I don’t believe it is a race or gender issue because you have the same thing in Belize City. It just doesn’t get out as much and Waggie plays it a bit more coy, but there’s been constant infighting in Belize City Hall. That’s why they shipped Micah, we don’t even remember him. You go to Corozal, there’s big infighting with the gentleman that is the mayor –

“Rigo Vellos?”
Moses Shyne Barrow
“Yes, Brother Vellos because, you know, obviously Narda Garcia versus Elvie Vega is a big thing there. You have the councillors fighting against the mayor in the PG Town Council, so the People’s United Party municipal bodies have been a complete disaster for the people that they were elected to represent.”
