Shyne Barrow: U.S Travel Advisory on Belize is For Good Reason
Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of State issued a travel advisory for Belize urging travellers to exercise heightened caution due to a notable prevalence of crime in the country. And while the Minister of Home Affairs has said that crime has gone down, the Leader of the Opposition says the existence of coca plantations in Belize gives the U.S. good reason to issue such an advisory against us.
Moses Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
“You have a travel advisory that went into effect from the United States. You have the discovery of cocaine plantations. So now we have gone from drug plane landings to now we’re manufacturing cocaine in Belize. And if that was being done under the United Democratic Party, you know how leaky dory goh. That would certainly have come to the attention of the public. So it just goes to show that the government that promised to make things better has made things completely worse, and we need to look at that again. The State Department has increased the level to where Belize is as far as a drug trafficking hub and folks. Good reason.”
