Senate Inquiry into Portico’s Definitive Agreement Gets Underway
A senate inquiry into the controversial definitive agreement that was granted to Portico Enterprises Limited, the parent company of Port of Magical Belize, commenced this morning at the National Assembly Building in Belmopan. The investigation is looking at how the agreement between the Barrow administration and businessman David Gegg came into being. At the start of the inaugural session which is being chaired by Senator Janelle Chanona, a motion for the appointment and establishment of a special select committee was introduced.

“I am directed by the clerk that the first order of business by the public hearing is to read in full the motion. The motion for the appointment of a special select committee to investigate all documents communications and processes tied to the signing of the document titled “Definative Agreement” by and between the Government of Belize and Portico Enterprises Ltd., DBA, the Port of Magical Belize dated October 1st, 2020 and to investigate all documents, communications and processes that resulted in the document titled Definative Agreement by and between the Government of Belize and Portico Enterprises Ltd, DBA, the Port of Magical Belize, dated October 1st, 2020, being presented to the Cabinet accompanied by draft legislation as attachments to Cabinet confidential memo 84 of 2023, dated May 15th, 2023.”
