Investigation Reveals Policemen Assaulted Man First
On Wednesday, we reported on a stabbing incident in San Pedro that left two policemen wounded. The initial story was that the policemen, Edwin Reid and Kieran Mena were walking shortly after midnight near the corner of Laguna Drive and Spider Lily Street in the vicinity of the San Pedro High School when the incident happened. They reported their attacker as being a slim built, Hispanic man who cursed them and then stabbed them, before running off. Today, Regional Commander of the Belize Police Department’s Eastern Division, A.C.P Hilberto Romero told the media that there’s now a completely different version to the incident – that it was the police who attacked the man, who then reacted.

“On Wednesday, the sixth day of December 2023, police responded to a report of a stabbing incident in San Pedro. They visited the San Pedro Polyclinic, where upon arrival they found Police Constable Kieran Mena and Police Constable Edwin Reid with stab wounds. They were treated and have since been released. They mentioned that it was some kind of assault and they had intervened and were stabbed. An investigation was carried out into this report, where police came across a male person identified as Eric Bradley. Eric Bradley reported that he was standing on the street when he was approached by Karen Mena and Edwin Reed, who began to punch him and assaulted him. All three persons received several injuries and their injuries have been classified as wounding. We are carrying out an investigation on this matter. We’ll make a determination later on today as to the charges that will be levied.”
