Expiration on Floralia Runs Leaves Void in Southern Runs
The permit that Floralia Bus Line held to conduct runs from the southern Belize expired on Saturday, the result of a court order that was handed down last month. The ruling was that the bus runs were improperly approved by the Transport Board, and placed James Bus Line and Griga Line Limited at a disadvantage. Meanwhile, the ministry issued a press release last Friday announcing that the Supreme Court has denied а request to vary the Floralia December tenth deadline. The bus runs that are being affected are the five-thirty departure from Punta Gorda to Belize City, the six-thirty from Punta Gorda to Belize City from Monday to Saturday, and one that leaves Dangriga at six a.m., for Belize City from Monday to Saturday. The Ministry states that it is committed to working on a solution to minimize a break in the service to commuters. The Transport Board will formally look at applications for road service permits for two of the bus runs at its meeting scheduled for this Thursday – the last such meeting for the year, while it will consider a third at another meeting in January. The department invites interested parties to make written submissions for consideration at their meeting.
