A donation of Chromebooks was handed over to a group of visually impaired students through the Office of the Special Envoy for Women and Children. The donation of digital devices was made possible through the efforts of Customer HD, a growing company in the local business process outsourcing sector. “The Chromebooks were made available to us as a kind gift from the government and people of Taiwan through the Prime Minister which means through the Special Envoy. And please appreciate that only I have the full authority to refer to her as the First Lady of the country. The good people at Customer HD, they have collaborated and partnered with the Special Envoy, First Lady, and to add some IT specialists to the Chromebook to make them accessible and usable to persons with disability. I just want that in Belize, we are making advancements to protect the dignity and rights of persons who are living with disability. We aim to promote participation, inclusion, non-discrimination and empowerment of persons who are living with disability and these recipients of these Chromebooks today, it’s a perfect example of how we are empowering them. These assistive devices which will also come compact with accessible technology will contribute to making their lives far more meaningful and to have them participate and to be equal to even those who are their peers in the school system.”
