PM Says G.O.B. Trying to Address Price Hike on Sliced Bread
As of next Monday, you will need to pay two dollars and fifty cents for each loaf of sixteen ounce sliced bread. That’s because bakers have decided to raise the price of the staple product. The news came last week via a press release from the Baker’s Association, and even though there is price control on sliced bread, the price is going to increase. The government is looking at options it can introduce to ease the huge increase, and today Prime Minister John Briceño explained to reporters that the government is trying to see what it can do towards that end.
Prime Minister John Briceño
“The price of everything has gone up, the price of lard has gone up. The price of wheat, of flour has gone up considerably. And we are doing everything possible to hold on the cost of living. You all love to accuse us that we are not doing anything, when we are trying to do our best. A loaf of bread, a Bimbo bread in Chetumal is about $3.50 to $4.00, so, but here we are struggling and doing our best. You need, I need to remind you that our government in many instances have been with the little resources they have been providing some sort of subsidies. At one time we gave it to the boss, we gave it to the bread people. No, again, they’re coming again and we’re trying to see what we can do. We are doing everything possible to hold on the cost of living in this country.”
