Can gospel music stop the gangland fighting?
A musical artist has recognized that the crime situation in Belize City has been stagnant. His solution is to spread peace and love through gospel music. Yon Bevans had once spent time behind bars for a crime he says he didn’t commit. Those few months in remand, drew him closer to the lord and he wants all gang bangers to know that with the lord, peace is possible. Bevans stopped by our studios today to promote his new CD.

“Your Love Sure is Something” is expressing what you really know and feel about that person and that’s what I can say about Jesus. But there’s another song on there “Come Stand with Jesus” that is inviting you to take your place as a human being created by God to serve God and to help your fellow brothers and sisters in Belize today. As you can see, we have “I Stand to Praise You”. That’s declaring your position, knowing who you are, what you were meant to be and what you will do about it and “I Stand to Praise You” is also my favorite song on the CD.”

“Track number four says “No Need to Quarrel”. Why is this an important message in today’s—for 2010?”
Yon Bevans
“Well, for me I wrote this song because of a situation in my own life where I was picked up and charged for burglary and dangerous harm. I knew absolutely nothing about it but I was remanded for four months and during that time in 1996 I wrote “No Need to Quarrel” and I didn’t know how much impact it would have today. But when I see the guys labeled as leaders of gangs coming together and say they want peace, they are tired of war and things, I realize that God has been doing these things long before now. It’s up to us as Belizeans to embrace this song and make it a part of our life.”
The price of the CD is twenty dollars. Bevans says he hopes that he will be able to distribute it free of cost to gang leaders.
