Magistrates Court starts 2010 with firearm and ammo charges

Story PictureThe Supreme Court is still in recess, but at the Magistrates’ Court Mark Medina was charged for unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Medina was freed of several offences in 2009 including Murder and Burglary, but at the start of 2010 he is behind bars. Police say that on December twenty-eighth they searched Medina’s house on Berkeley Street where they found a nine millimetre pistol loaded with sixteen rounds of ammunition. This morning Medina appeared before the Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb McKenzie and pleaded not guilty to the charges. Medina was additionally charged with one count of Theft for allegedly stealing one hundred dollars from his girl friend, Jodie Myvette. Medina was denied bail and remanded into custody at the Hattieville Prison until March fourth. Just last week, Medina along with his mother and father were jointly charged with burglarizing the home of Shakira Terry located at the corner of Dean and George Streets and stealing cash, cell phones and other items. The items were recovered and Terry informed the court that she would drop the charges.

And he is no stranger to police and has a number of charges pending before the court including the assault of a police officer. And even though twenty-one year old Kareem Arnold was recently granted bail, he is back at the Hattieville Prison tonight after Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb McKenzie remanded for Keeping Unlicensed Ammunition. Arnold was busted on Sunday in Belize City with twenty live rounds of point nine millimeter ammunition. Police say that about ten-thirty a.m., while on patrol on Mahogany Street, they saw Arnold acting suspicious and when they approached him, he threw a bag on a rooftop. The bag was retrieved and the ammunition was allegedly found inside. Arnold pleaded not guilty to the charge, bail was denied and he will return to court on March third. His previous conviction was August thirty-first of 2009 for similar offences.
