Ferguson Says He Has Area’s Support Despite Port Acquisition

Following government’s announcement of its acquisition of the Port of Belize, it has come under criticism from employees at the Big Creek Port. These are also constituents of Stann Creek West Area Representative, Rodwell Ferguson. Despite a letter the constituents sent to the prime minister, slamming the government for the acquisition, Ferguson says he still enjoys the support of the constituents. He added that it’s a decision that he has no control over.

“I believe I do because I have my own way of how to deal with my people in my constituency. And they have a right to express their concern, and their feeling about the port, because they are a private port, not competing with a government port. That was a decision by cabinet that I can’t – I cannot make any change, I cannot reverse.”
