New Chief Transport Officer Is Leon Gentle
The Ministry of Transport has a new Chief Transport Officer – the second in less than two years. He is Leon Gentle, and according to the Minister of Transport, Gentle has spent eighteen years with the Ministry of Education and was appointed by the Ministry of the Public Service.
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Transport
“The new Chief Transport Officer is Mr. Leon Gentle, who has been in the Education Department for over 18 years. And so when the past transport officer, the chief, did not apply because the contract was expired, and she was negotiating with the Ministry of Finance for additional pay, that became void, and so there was a need for a new chief transport officer. And so I said I don’t want to appoint anybody again to avoid any animosity. So I asked the Ministry of Public Service to advertise the post. I believe about five or six or seven people applied, and it was zero down to three. Mr. Leon Gentle, the Deputy Chief, Mr. Peter Williams, and a lady from Cayo, I can’t remember her name. And the panelists sat down with three of them, and Mr. Leon Gentle became successful over the three. He has a master’s degree in education and with leadership skills.”
