Policeman Stabbed During Confrontation with Men
A police officer was stabbed several times on Thursday evening in Red Bank Village, Stann Creek. The incident happened around five o’clock, as four men: Carmelo Cholom, Gerald Garcia, Eddy Garcia and Gilberto Caw were socializing in front of a business establishment. That was when the policeman, thirty-four-year-old Perfecto Tush, arrived in a pickup, got out and walked past them. As he did, he heard one of the men questioned why he was staring at them so hard. Tush allegedly walked back to his pickup and armed himself with pepper spray, which he used to spray Cholom with in the face. Cholom then pulled out a knife and stabbed Tush several times. At this point, twenty-nine-year-old Jason Sho, a passenger in Tush’s vehicle, tried to intervene and stop the fight but also suffered stab wounds. Both he and Tush were transported to the Independence Polyclinic where they remain in stable conditions. Cholom was subsequently charged with attempted murder.
