Witnesses in Murder Case Retract Statements
Earlier this month we told you about Delson Paguada. He remains at the Belize Central Prison after being convicted, along with his brother Tionne Paguada, for the murder of Paul Jex. He was also accused of the shooting death of American tourist J’Bria Bowen in San Pedro Town. Two days after her son was arrested and charged, Amancia Martinez asserted that her son was at home when Bowen was fatally shot. Martinez, steadfast in her claim that her son was at home during the incident, now pledges to take legal action against the Belize Police Department since the charge against him has been withdrawn. And the reason the charge was withdrawn, according to Police Commissioner Chester Williams, is because the witnesses retracted their statements.

“Salazar is still being sought. I think only Paguada they have withdrawn against. I had consulted the DPP on that matter and what was said to me was that the witness or witnesses had gone to retract their statement. So we are looking at it again and see if we’ll be able to get additional evidence and should we do so that would pin back Paguada to the incident then we’re going to do the rearrest.”
